Infrastructure fees to be charged perhaps

Visitors to some of the better known attractions face paying a fee.

The government plans to introduce an infrastructure fee at three of Iceland's most popular state-owned tourist attractions: Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir National Park.

Under a bill submitted for public consultation, the fee will be ISK 4,500. It will apply to visitors aged 18 and over who are not tax residents of Iceland, regardless of nationality.

After paying the fee, visitors will receive confirmation valid for one year, allowing them to visit all three attractions without paying again.

The fee will be lower during the winter months, at ISK 3,000. The winter rate will apply from 1 November to 31 May.

Parking charges will no longer apply.

I wonder if this will drive people to visit other locations? Few people will visit them more than once realistically.
