I blogged about this book before... it's readable and has some good descriptions of volcanic eruptions. There have been some negative reviews of the book but I quite liked it.
It's now been turned into a movie.

The Fires is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Sigríður Hagalín Björnsdóttir, co-written by Markus Englmair (Blood and Milk) and directed by Ugla Hauksdóttir (Alien: Earth).
Thomas’s beautiful pictures of gas clouds and of herself looking worried while observing said clouds, along with his groovy bachelor pad where he listens to Nick Cave, light a fire in Anna’s loins and soon they are having an affair. Given Iceland has a population roughly equal to Coventry’s, it doesn’t take long for word to get round.
