Olafur Eliaason has produced a new artwork which features a path on a volcano on Heimaey.
Consisting of two parts, the artwork is both a spherical viewing pavilion (now complete) and a 1.2km path around the Eldfell volcano, currently in development. For the event, flame torches were held up across the volcano to mark the route the path will follow.
The work combines many ideas that are dear to Olafur: the importance of taking time to pause and reflect, and to feel one’s presence in the here and now; the need to question one’s own perspective and to be curious about others’ perceptions and experiences.
It is called 'The Wanderer's Perspective'.

And from the artist's Instagram account an image of the pavilion from which the walk is viewed.
