The Arctic Observatory opened in 2018 to study the aurora borealis and educate people and connect scientific research with the local community and visitors.
The CIAO Observatory is in the northern part of Iceland, close to the municipality Laugar, and 45 minutes from Akureyri, so it is not on the usual tourist route for most visitors to the country. It looks to be an impressive building.
I last saw the aurora in 2015, and am hoping to be able to see them again at some future date.
