Mar 18: M is for Moss

The Icelandic moss is luxurious and soft (or so it appears to me, I haven't touched it)
It takes centuries to grow, and is very easily damaged.

As I mentioned in a previous blog post, Justin Bieber was in trouble back in 2015 when he visited Iceland to film a music video. In one scene he was shown rolling around on the moss near Skaftárhreppur.

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon is one famous location where this moss can be found. As a result of the filming, this had to be closed to reduce the possibility of damage.

Don't step on the moss explains more about how easily damaged it is, and how slow growing.

Don't rip it up to insulate your tent as some campers did too recently, or carve shapes into it as others did. Crazy acts of vandalism.
