The new equal-area map is intended to show all of this more accurately. In reality, however, it is virtually impossible to represent the countries of the Earth perfectly on a flat surface.
Sigmar says an orange provides an obvious example.
If we took the peel off it, with all the countries on its surface, and then tried to flatten the peel completely, it would never work. There would always be distortion.Are maps political?
Yes, I think they are political and always have been. You can say all sorts of things with maps... With new technology and new projections, we can see the world more accurately. And I think the world should be shown as it really is.
