Vaðaldavirkjun is the name of Iceland's first wind-farm. Given how windy the country is, I'm surprised there aren't more wind turbines.
The ending virkjun means "power station"... or "wind farm" in this case.
A story in Iceland Review from 2024 when a wind farm got the go ahead.
We believe that wind is one of the greatest resources we have in Iceland and we are taking certain steps in this area. I believe it is incredibly important to consider where we want to see these structures, and hopefully, this project will help politicians and the public understand what these projects mean so that we can be sensible with regard to future developments.
The roads which are going to be used to transport the equipment to build the wind farm are having to be strengthened and widened and new turns put in so that the vehicles can travel to the site.
