The magma chamber beneath the zone of activity on the Reynisfjara peninsula is filling and the volume of magma is now at its highest level.
When this has happened before we have had one of twelve (to date) eruption phases - the last two of which coincided with my time in Iceland.
Five years ago yesterday an eruption was happening too. The first for over 800 years on the Peninsula.
Kristín Jónsdóttir, head of natural hazard monitoring at Veðurstofa Íslands (Icelandic Meteorological Office), says it is more likely that the next eruption in the Sundhnúksgígar crater row will occur in the coming days or weeks rather than in several months.
More magma has now accumulated beneath Svartsengi than at any point since the eruption sequence began, and she says it is possible that a larger volume of magma could result in a larger eruption.
We also had a heavy snow storm across a lot of Iceland over the weekend with travel disruption, so winter is definitely not over yet.
And flights cancelled today too apparently....
