Easter Eggs

I shall be in Iceland in the run up to Easter which means I can get an Icelandic Easter Egg.

These are available in a wide range of sizes, and tend to contain Icelandic candy when you break them open.

Iceland was a bit late to the Easter egg game, but an average of over 7 eggs is manufactured for every person in the country.

The article above also explains that:

A further development arrived in the 1940s when we added old proverbs called “málshættir” inside each egg.

The málshættir is now one of the most vital parts of the Easter egg tradition, especially for those who don’t like the candy. Families sit together, break their eggs open, find their tightly wrapped málshættir scroll, and take turns reading theirs out loud. Discussions often ensue about whether they are fitting.

Nammi is one company which sells them, and the company Goa makes a lot of them.
