Hellisheidi and Carbon Capture

I popped into Hellisheidi with a group that I visited Iceland with a month or so ago. It's Iceland's largest geothermal plant, but it has also introduced some technology for carbon capture, which provides an additional reason for visiting perhaps, so that can be discussed with students. Blue Lagoon closure

There have been a number of eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula over the last few years. The latest looked like it may be about to begin, but there has been some reduction in activity. A swarm of earthquakes has led to the closure of the Blue Lagoon for a week at least, and the evacuation of the town of Grindavik which, with a population of just over 3000 people. These were large enough to bring down some rocks on the approach road.
