Paul Berry, a fellow Rayburn FST has posted about the recent development at Hellisheidi power plant, which is between Hveragerdi and the capital. I shall be heading there next week with my group. I have a few images of the power plant, although last time I went it was too foggy to see anything and the previous time it was so wet that everyone made a dash for the door and coach when leaving.
The station is run by the ON power company, and is the third largest geothermal station in the world (after others in Italy and California), and is one of seven such power stations in the country. It exploits geothermal energy from the Hengill volcano, an active system that last erupted some 2,000 years ago.The company Climeworks has been building a new DAC+S (Direct Air Capture and Storage) plant called Mammoth since 2022. This is much bigger than their earlier ORCA plant that was a proof of concept.

Carbfix is the company's storage partner.
Here's how their system works.
