Westfjords

A few locations which are part of itineraries from the companies that take students to Iceland. The Westfjords is a location that many schools do not visit as it is quite a lengthy drive north from Reykjavik, and with a limited number of days they tend to focus on the SW instead. A few of the places that I am due to visit in March 2024.

Hraunfossar and Barnafoss

Two waterfalls which are off the beaten track lie up the Westfjords. They are worth visiting, as a comparison with the more usual stops at Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss.

Grabrok Crater

This will perhaps be one of the main draws of the Westfjords and the furthest distance travelled north on the journey. There is a separate blog post on these craters. Thanks to Tony Escritt for the guidance on visiting these features.

Borgarnes Crater

Eldborg crater is shown below... a similar vibe to Kerid but without the lake.

Deildartunghver is a hot spring area, similar to those of Krysuvik and Gunnuhver.

More to come as I get nearer to the trip...
