Ben Hennig's reports from Fagradasfjall and environs...

There has been recent volcanic activity in the area of Fagradasfjall for the last few years, with a prolonged eruption starting in March 2021, and some renewed activity in August 2022.

Ben Hennig visited the site a number of times during that time as he lives in Reykjavik near to the site of the eruption.

He shared some remarkable images on this blog post here.

He also created an excellent map which shows the trails to the volcano. See that at the end of the post.

He also makes a point about the naming of such new places.
Fagradalshraun (‘beautiful valley lava’) was decided as the name for the new lava fields that cover several of the valleys surrounding the eruption site.
