Dec 30: Ian Hardie

Ian Hardie was the Icelandic field tutor for Rayburn back in the early 2000s and earlier...
At the time, he was the only person who would do this, or at least one of very few people who worked for Rayburn as there were fewer visitors from schools in the UK back then.
Ian built a house in Iceland which had a view of the mountain.
He wrote a book which he sold at the time to raise money for the rescue efforts.

It sits on my shelf, and goes along with other materials written at the time, and a beautiful book of photographs which I bought in 2011.
I presume he is now retired and living in Iceland as he was planning.

On the subject of that, it seems that Iceland has dealt with the Coronavirus very effectively as shown in this Nature article.

Also worth checking out the Guardian's website today, as they have posted a picture story on Iceland's efforts to become carbon neutral.
