Aug 27: Lava Centre

The Lava Centre is a fairly recent addition to the attractions in the SW of Iceland. It has an attractive and informative website providing details of the films and exhibits on offer. The ABOUT tab will also explain how the building came about, and the efforts they are making towards being sustainable.

LAVA Centre is an interactive volcano and earthquake exhibition that takes you on an interactive journey through the geology of Iceland, the most active volcanoes and why Iceland is so active. Guests walk thorough a corridor that visualizes the eruption history of Iceland, its massive volcanoes and active geology.
On interactive screens, guests learn about the magnitude of the volcanoes, how active they are and get an interactive demonstration on eruptions in the vicinity.

It is at Hvolsvöllur, on the road to the south coast and most tours will pass by the building. It's one I'm yet to visit, and am looking forward to seeing it.

Update: Just as well I checked :)

For updates on opening at the current time, check out the Facebook page for the LavaCentre.
