Oct 12: Snorri Sturluson

Snorri is an Icelandic national hero.

He is thought to have been responsible for writing many of the most famous sagas including Egil's Saga, which I first read when visiting the country.
He was a historian, a poet and also a politican, being elected to the althing.

He also compiled the Prose Edda, which provides details on Norse mythology and is a source book for many other stories and tales from the past.

His Wikipedia page provides a range of information about his exploits and also his eventual assassination.

The 700th Anniversary of his death was marked by the release of a postage stamp set commemorating Snorri.
