May 27: Icelandic Sagas

File:Möðruvallabók f13r.jpgIcelandic sagas are a key part of the history and culture of the country.
They are prose and were often written down following a period when they were told orally.
They tend to be focussed on family feuds, and include details on genealogy and family dynamics, as well as being set in particular geographical locations.
The sagas tend to be fairly bloodthirsty.
When travelling through Iceland, one occasionally comes across the site of events in some of the sagas.
One key saga is Njál's Saga, or the Saga of Burnt Njáll.

Which sagas have you read?
