Apr 9: The Golden Circle

The Golden Circle is the name for the area of SW Iceland containing some of the key tourist attractions, and the tours which go to this part of Iceland every day. For many visitors, their images of the country will be the same, and the challenge for me would be to try to see them from a different vantage point or be creative with the way they are framed and captured.
There are three key locations on the tour:
  • Thingvellir - the location of the first Parliament - a tectonic rift
  • Gullfoss - a double waterfall
  • Geysir - the eponymous location of Geysir, although Strokkur is the one that erupts every 5-10 minutes
With two or three supplementary locations on a circular route:
  • Kerid crater
  • Hveragerdi
  • Hvolsvollur
  • Selfoss
Many schools will also divert to the 'Ice Cream farm' at Efstidalur as well. More on that to come in a future blog post.

Here's a map of the Golden Circle locations so that you can see the scale. It is a full day tour really.

Which is your favourite stopping-off point on the Golden Circle route?

This is the 100th post on the blog. Thanks to everyone who's paid a visit...
