Mar 6: Ð is for..... nothing

This is the letter 'eth' (or 'edd')

It is an extra character in the Icelandic alphabet and is shown here in upper and lower case versions.
It is pronounced like a soft 'th' in the word 'father'.

However, no word starts with this character.
It can be found within other words, including quite a few place names, but not at the start.
This is the reason why.

Eth is also mentioned in the lyrics of a song by the Canadian band 'Rush', written by the late Neil Peart.

The Tobes of Hades
Lit by flickering torchlight
The Netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern
To the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air

Lyrics by Neil Peart, from the album 'Fly by Night' (1975)
