Mar 25: T is for Tjörnin

Tjörnin or "the pond" is a small lake in central Reykjavik, which is very popular as a place to sit and walk alongside, perhaps feeding the ducks.
You'll always find ducks there, even in winter, as the NE corner of the pond is kept free of ice, by piping warm water into the pond.

It's actually a series of bodies of water heading towards the airport and is very shallow according to this nice piece which provides the history of the area where it is located. It's worth a walk around if you are in Reykjavik on a sunny day. Take some bread for the ducks perhaps...

The name Tjörnin is derived from the Old Norse 'tjörn', an ancestor of the Northern English 'tarn', meaning “mountain lake”.
