Feb 19: Mission:Explore Iceland

I hope you're familiar with the Mission:Explore books. We produced the original orange book almost 10 years ago.

We've written a number of books since, which have won awards.
Our collaboration with the John Muir Trust has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, and our most recent book was Mission:Explore National Parks.

In 2012-13 I worked with Helen Steer and John Sayers to create a special version of the resource for Iceland.

I spoke to Dan Stacey about the potential for the project for months, and worked up some ideas for a series of missions in key locations around the island. We brought in Tom Morgan Jones to produce the usual distinctive inkings and he really excelled himself.

Sadly, owing to other commitments, the intended trip to Iceland didn't happen, and John Sayers went in my place to help shape the final resource, test the ones I'd written, and add some others.

There is a teacher and a student pack, and they are rather excellent.
The resource won the award you can see: Commended in the Non-Book category at the SAGT Awards in 2013.

Sadly, at the moment, the Discover Geography website seems to have disappeared, so they are not available to download. It would be good to see them back up again. I have copies of them of course, along with Tom's original inkings, including the infamous big fish one...
