Jan 25: Hornstrandir

A video of someone walking for 60 miles alone on Hornstrandir. Remarkable landscape.

An excellent site by Kraig Adams, who made this film.

I didn’t know Hornstrandir existed until a week before I arrived upon its shores.
You’ll feel incredibly isolated on this hike because the landscape is devoid of trees and people. The windy peninsula jutting over the top of the West Fjords is home to beautiful cliffs, lush green valleys and arctic foxes. The extremely dramatic and photogenic Horn at the end of the trail is the climax of the hike. The giant green slopes are home to thousands of sea birds nesting in the towering cliffs that depend straight into the crashing ocean. This hike reminded me so much of Hideo Kojima's game Death Stranding. This hike is slightly difficult due to the isolation. You have to bring everything you need with you because there’s nowhere to re-supply. There are no roads. You need to be precise with your roundtrip ferry reservations. There are a few sharp cliffs with ropes to guide you up and down. There are small and large stream crossings depending on the tide. The route I took was about 50-60 miles long with about 12,000ft of elevation gain and took me about four days to hike.
